Curly hair struggles? We thought so. Curly hair can be one of the most difficult hair types to look after. Curly hair strands tend to be drier and under-nourished, however the scalp can remain quite oily, these opposing problems can make it quite confusing to know how to care for your hair

Why are my curls dry but scalp and roots oily?

Curly hair strands are unusual and irregularly shaped therefore the natural oils that the scalp produces struggle to work its way from the top of hair strands to the ends. Whilst straight hair strands simple shape mean the natural oils travel down the strands quicker, easier and keep the hair naturally nourished.

One of the easiest and most important ways to care for your curls, is to experiment with the frequency of your washes. Experiment with how often you wash your hair and find a routine that suits you the best. More often than not, people over wash their hair which can aggravate the scalp as well as drawing out natural oils from the strands that would usually keep hair moisturised. Trial out different hair wash frequencies and see if it makes a difference to your hair.

Try Low-Foam Cleansers or Cleansing Conditioners:

An easy way to stop stripping curly hair of it’s oils is to try a ‘shampoo’ that is more gentle. Cleansing Conditioners are a great way to clean the hair but also add a little extra hydration within the cleansing process.

Kérastase created the Discipline Range for curly, frizzy hair and the Cleansing Conditioner is a great way to calm and soothe curly hair and leave it feeling soft, manageable but most importantly clean. The gentle formula is free from Silicones and Parabens and enriched with Pro-Keratine for nourishment.

A new addition to the Schwarzkopf family is the Mad About Curls Range. Within the range is a Low Foam Cleanser that cleanses and conditions all in one simple step.

For an even lighter cleanse, try a whipped cleansing conditioner. Joico’s Co+Wash in the Curl range cleanses and hydrates each strand of hair. The key ingredients such as avocado, caemlina oil and deep sea minerals create healthy-looking hair and helps to prevent future breakage.

Extra Curl Care:

Just like any hair type, sometimes extra care is necessary. There are many different treatments available for curly hair, and all with different textures and benefits.

The newest curl dedicated treatment to gorgeousshop.com is Sebastian Professional Twisted Elastic Treatment. Inspired by the deep sea, Twisted is infused with Flexi Alg™ Complex that infuses hair with the same elasticity as underwater plants. The Elastic Treatment is perfect for a quick pamper, simply apply the mask generously to hair after shampooing and wait 3 – 5 minutes and finish by rinsing. The treatment adds moisture to untameable hair and gives gorgeously defined hair.
