Fashion Week season is upon us! However, it's not all about flouncy dresses and who takes a catwalk tumble, we're all for haute hair. Enter Guido Palau, Redken's legendary hairstylist, for his top tips on Fashion Week worthy tresses.

Fashion Week’s all about iconic moments, and last season there was no moment more iconic than Donatella Versace’s Spring/Summer 2018 show at Milan Fashion Week.

Paying tribute to her late brother, Gianni Versace, Donatella called on ’90s supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen and Carla Bruni to talk the runway. With the supers closing the shower walking to George Michael’s ‘Freedom! ’90’, Redken’s Global Creative Director Guido Palau reflected on the moment that launched his legendary hairstyling career. Styling the hair for Freedom! ’90’s music video.

“Everything about it was an amazing experience and it really took me to another level in my career. I’m very proud of what it is and what it has become in people’s eyes… it’s nice to be a part of something that means a lot to people. It was very emotional for Donatella and for everyone. She’s very passionate about her work. I admire that about her. I’ve worked with her for over 20 years and with Gianni.”

So just how did Guido create the looks for this iconic catwalk moment? Using some #TeamGorgeous Redken favourites of course.

Styling the Show

  1. Prepping the Hair

Guido prepped the hair with Pillow Proof Blow Dry Primer Spray for heat protection. He then applied Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam. Guido calls this his ‘must-have’ product for women at Fashion Week. The mousse added ’90s-inspired volume and hold, with a thoroughly modern formula that ensured hair wasn’t left stiff or sticky.

  2. Finishing the Look

To finish the look, Guido blow-dried the hair using a round brush, then lightly sprayed on Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist and Fashion Work 12 Versatile Hairspray for shine and hold.

Versace wasn’t the only show Guido lended his expertise to for SS18. For the Alexander Wang show in New York, Guido styled industry newcomer Kaia Gerber, the daughter of legendary super Cindy Crawford.
