Another London Fashion Week's been and gone, and while some were lusting after the clothes, we were all about the hair and makeup. So here's a look at next season's hair trands as we go backstage with L’Oréal Professionnel...

Some of our favourite designers were paving the way for SS19 hair trends this season. From Bora Aksu to Alexa Chung, we spotted everything from braids to beachy textures. So here’s how to get the looks we loved.

Bora Aksu’s Nomadic Braids

Created by Lead Hairstylist Tina Outen, for L’Oréal Professionnel, of all the hair trends, this could be our favourite!

Inspired by a Romani-Gypsy poet, this romantic look features low twin braids with a weathered, lived-in look. The imperfect finish makes this the perfect hair trend for recreating at home. With Outen stating to make the look ‘messy, like she’s on the road in a caravan and doesn’t have a mirror’, there’s no need for fear of failure when it comes to giving this a go.

Get the Look

  • First, create a super-clean parting to the crown and apply L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli to the top section
  • Drench the lengths with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Hollywood Waves Spiral Queen mousse to take out the weight and ‘niceness’ of the hair
  • Rough dry the mousse into the hair, and layer in more to exaggerate the lived-in feel
  • Load L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Constructor on to ends to give them extra texture and guts
  • Create low twin braids (with a loose, imperfect parting) using clear elastics and secure a few inches from the ends
  • Tie the free ends into a trio of micro braids, leaving around an inch to play on a ‘frayed’ finish
  • Loop both braids and secure with super-fine pins to hide the elastics. Leave the ends loose and apply L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Wild Stylers Depolish to separate and feather the tips
  • Spray on L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Fix Anti-Frizz to give light hold to the final look
  • Finally, spritz L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Wet Domination Shower Shine onto fingertips to define any details on flyaways and ends

The Pro Tip: Play on the weathered look by spritzing L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli over the top section for lightweight, airy texture. Use a brush to exaggerate any loose, baby hairs.

Alexa Chung’s Relaxed Glamour

Created by Lead Hairstylist Alex Brownsell, for L’Oréal Professionnel, of all the hair trends this one’s perfect for an in-between glamour and grunge style.

Inspired by Alexa’s own look, mixed with 70s Jane Birkin, this gorgeous look offers natural texture and lived-in glamour.

Get the Look

  • Prep wet hair with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Liss
  • Control gel-cream through the ends if the hair is slightly dry or needs taming
  • Spray on L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli to help set the hair
  • Dry in the product using a hairdryer with diffuser on a high heat/low speed setting to help mould the hair as you’re drying
  • Using your hands only, use a trio of sculpting techniques randomly through the hair: twisting, scrunching, and wrapping around fingers to emulate a barrel wave
  • Create a faux but subtle cowlick at the front (or side) of the hair, using a net and L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Pli to set the detail
  • Take a tiny amount of L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Liss Control+ serum onto fingers and apply to the ends for a bit of polish
  • Use a nylon hairbrush to brush over the top layer of hair for subtle 70s ‘frizz’ texture
  • Spritz NEW L’Oréal Professionnel Infinium Pure soft hold gently over the hair to finish

The Pro Tip: It’s all in the setting and sculpting with your hands. Dry the hair super-slowly and vary freestyle techniques, like weaving hair through your fingers. You’ll achieve that effortless cool girl texture – minus the heated styling tools.

Markus Lupfer’s Beach Cool

Created by Lead Hairstylist Tina Outen, for L’Oréal Professionnel, of all the hair trends, this quirky look’s the one that screams summer.

Inspired by cool, modern and quirky styles, this beachy-textured style is ‘business on the top and party on the ends’, says Outen.

Get the Look

  • Start with a strict centre parting to the crown using a tail comb
  • Overload the hair with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Hollywood Waves Siren Waves to mould the crown through to the top of the ears and create a clean, tight head shape
  • Layer on L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Volume Architect to the top section to mattify and add ‘stiffness’, then dry off
  • Pin paper tightly to the crown to help set and exaggerate the strict shape
  • Create the beachy texture through the lengths with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Dual Stylers Bouncy & Tender. Separate hair into two-inch sections and squash the product in to create natural movement
  • Diffuse dry using your chosen hairdryer
  • Detail the ends with L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Wet Domination Shower Shine so the hair looks sea-dipped
  • Finish with a light mist of L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Fix Anti-Frizz to seal the hair

The Pro Tip: Make sure you’ve shaped and textured the hair exactly as you want it when you’re applying the L’Oréal Professionnel Tecni.ART Dual Stylers Bouncy & Tender. Once the hair’s dry and set, it’s tricky to change it.
