Looking for some unique halloween make-up ideas? We explore some of the best looks on Instagram and how to do them!

‘Tis the season to be ghoulish and all-around terrifying. As the pumpkin lattés appear and the summer dresses go back into storage, the make-up artists of Instagram show off their killer Halloween make-up skills! Whether you’re thinking of going as a creepy clown or a disturbing doll this year, there’s more that you can do than just wear a costume. Here are a few make-up looks from the pros. If you fancy your chances, give these a go or simply use these for costume inspiration.

A Glam Skeleton

Fancy looking dead while also simultaneously very pretty? This look courtesy of giuliannaa is the perfect balance of terrifying and fabulous. If you fancy attempting the glamourous skeleton, you’re going to need a range of dark eyeshadows, a sparkly highlighter, rhinestones and some white contact lenses. She’s made an easy to follow the tutorial here.

Pennywise From IT

Since the rise of Stephen King’s IT, this famous yet frightening clown is likely to be seen everywhere this Halloween. While most will probably skip the make-up and quickly buy a mask, this look will set you out from the crowd and show off your skills. Jordanhanz’ Pennywise uses body paints, eyeshadows and yellow-red contact lenses, not to mention a bald cap if you want to go the whole hog. She’s created a YouTube tutorial here.

Elle Driver From Kill Bill

Sticking to the film references is of course a nod in Quentin Tarantino’s direction. Compared to the others on this list, Elle Driver isn’t a particularly scary looking character. However, this look is the easiest to achieve and will leave you still looking super glamourous. Not to mention, it’s pretty iconic so you won’t have people questioning what you’ve come as. To create this look, casslloydfx has simply applied a bold red lip, not forgetting the signature eye patch.

A Severed Head

This look is one of the hardest ones to do, not to mention the most horrible, so only attempt if you’re feeling brave. Toxictinecreations crafts this Ned Stark style look using body paints, eyeshadows and misty contact lenses. If you’re not up to recreating this one, she made many horror inspired make-up looks on her instagram, so it’s worth browsing until you’ve found something that’s more you.

A Doll

Last but not least on our list of Instagram inspired Halloween make-up, is this creepy yet creative doll. Akalyna_ne_verba uses foundation, powder, blush and red lip gloss to look doll-like. On top of that, a black eye pencil is used for the shading, while a white eye pencil helps highlight and make the eyes look bigger. Fake blood and bright blue contact lenses are then used to finish off the look. If you want to really recreate this style, put your hair into plaits and finish off with red ribbons.

Happy Halloween! Good luck with your Halloween make-up!
