Ceramides are present in all the brand’s products, and it’s no wonder why. Ceramides are lipids that make up to 50% of the lipid layer within the skin barrier, which helps to form the natural skin barrier (alongside fatty acids and cholesterol). Ceramides are essentially the ‘glue’ that holds our skin cells together to keep our skin barrier intact and healthy. A healthy skin barrier helps to seal in moisture and seal out any impurities. CeraVe has a blend of ceramides, which were carefully selected by dermatologists, that are identical to those found naturally in your skin to help protect your natural skin barrier. When the skin’s ceramide levels become depleted, the skin’s natural barrier can become compromised, leading to dryness or irritation. Despite ceramides existing naturally in the skin, their levels can be reduced due to external and environmental factors, including ageing.
