Paul Mitchell started to train as a hairdresser at the Morris School of Hairdressing in London’s West End, following in the footsteps of his mother who was the first hairdresser in their town of Carnwath, Scotland.
Moving from a salon in Mayfair, Paul went on to work with the legendary Vidal Sassoon, and was then asked to train Sassoon’s staff at his first salon in the USA. Paul then went onto help launch Crimpers Salon at Bendel’s department store in New York where he introduced wash-and-wear hairstyling.
Paul Mitchell met John Paul DeJoria in 1971, who was then the district manager for Redken and in 1974 Paul opened up his own salon in New York and started America’s first cutting club.
Launching Paul Mitchell® in the UK in 1987 was a huge turning point for the brand, paving the way to where they are today.
